Matte Hardin

Just as I started my sophomore year at FHU, I became an officer in our Remote Area Medical Club. While in this position, a group of us worked together to plan and host a free dental health clinic in Henderson, TN. This took a whole year and a lot of help to plan but nonetheless, I along with several others hosted the clinic and got to see over 100 people get free dental care in just two days.

After working for almost an entire year with my friends in the Remote Area Medical (RAM) chapter at FHU, we were able to bring free dental care amounting to $60,000 in care to 101 patients. Many of these patients waited multiple hours for this care and some drove hundreds of miles to get it. To say the very least, it was a humbling and inspiring project that taught me two things: there is suffering all around me, and I can do something to alleviate it with the help of friends.
